Meet Mark

I want to bring back sanity to Town Hall leadership and restore Cary residents' trust in their local government.

My goal is to bring back sanity to Town Hall leadership and restore Cary residents’ trust in their local government.

I believe my finance and accounting background and public service experience make me uniquely qualified to work with the other Councilmembers and staff and get us back on the right track.

I first moved to Cary in 1994 after earning my Masters in Accounting from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Kelly and I raised our 2 kids, who attended Cary schools. Kelly worked as a teacher in both public and private schools and recently had a company that provided in-person care to senior citizens.

I worked for 30 years as a Certified Public Accountant (CFO, Controller and VP of Accounting) for several Raleigh, Cary and RTP-area private and non-profit companies.

I served almost 10 years on the Morrisville Town Council and had the honor of being its Mayor until 2017. We had a very diverse Council and were truly non-partisan. We all had the same goals in mind: provide the best services to our citizens and treat every tax dollar with care. We worked together, respected our taxpayers and achieved our goals.

Morrisville had more infrastructure needs than the town taxpayers could afford on their own. We leveraged a great partnership with the NCDOT and got our bond dollars stretched further. This helped us move ahead with many road projects we couldn't build on our own. Good relationships with the State made the difference.

After many years in Morrisville, our kids had grown, so we downsized and moved to Downtown Cary. We have loved living in Cary the past 6+ years and want our community to continue to flourish.

I retired in 2025 and was happy coaching youth cricket, playing some golf and traveling with the family. The recent news from the Cary private investigator and the NC State Auditor was both alarming and a call to action. I could not just sit on the sidelines as our Town Council turned its head to multimillion dollar fraud and taxpayer abuse, and on top of it raised our taxes because of their lack of oversight.
